The Scar Clinic Perth is a private medical and surgical practice specialising in the treatment of scars in adults and children.  

We are a team of Specialist Plastic Surgeons experienced in multi-modal reconstructive scar treatments including laser and surgery.  

We exclusively perform scar surgery, laser treatment and scar therapy – this is our unique area of expertise and we focus on delivering a quality professional service.

Dr. Suzanne Rea

Dr Suzanne Rea is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital, and a clinician scientist with a special interest in burn surgery and the treatment of complex scars. Dr Rea has initiated and established a laser scar treatment service for burns patients. She has seen the value of this treatment in non burn scars and is excited to offer this service to patients with problematic scarring from surgery, trauma or self harm.

Dr Rea completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery & Obstetrics degrees through the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and obtained her fellowship in Plastic Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons. After relocating to Western Australia, she completed a fellowship in Burns Surgery under the supervision of Professor Fiona Wood.  Suzanne was awarded her fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgery in 2014. She was awarded a doctorate by research (PhD) for her research performed at the University of Western Australia. Her research has won awards from the American Burns Association and the Australian New Zealand Burns Association.

Suzanne has worked in Western Australia as a Specialist Paediatric and Adult Acute and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon for 20 Years. She understands the physical, functional and psychological consequences of scarring and is passionate about helping patients improve their health post-trauma. She prides herself on her ability to put patients at ease during what can be a distressing and significant time in their lives.

The Scar Clinic Perth may deliver the last step of a patient’s treatment after trauma, allowing patients to move forward with confidence.

Suzanne is strongly involved with the Fiona Wood Foundation’s scientific and burns-related research program, with the primary goal of advancing our understanding and treatment of wounds and scars.

In her roles as Consultant Surgeon at the public hospitals and Associate Professor at UWA, she is integrally involved in research projects and has published important clinical trials examining the use of laser treatment.

Dr. Helen Douglas

Dr Helen Douglas is a fully qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon working in Perth, Western Australia and specialising in burns, scarring and laser treatments.  

Helen works in public and private practice; she is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in both the adult (Fiona Stanley Hospital) and children’s (Perth Children’s Hospital) burn units and has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery and laser treatment of scars. 

Dr Douglas is an award-winning plastic surgeon – she graduated in medicine in 2004, started her specialist plastic surgery training in the UK in 2011 and completed it in Perth, WA. Helen is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded the prestigious Ian McGregor Gold Medal for outstanding performance in her Specialist examinations in 2015.  

She has undertaken laser fellowships in the UK and WA and continues to publish and present her research on scarring, laser and trauma and burn surgery. 

Dr Douglas is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Western Australia and a Clinical Tutor at Cardiff University where she undertook her Master’s degree in Laser and Wound healing. 

Dr. Anna Goodwin-Walters

Dr. Anna Goodwin-Walters is an accomplished Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, fully accredited in both Australia and the United Kingdom, bringing over 20 years of experience to The Scar Clinic Perth, in addition to her public work at Fiona Stanley Hospital, in the WA State Burns Unit and the Plastic Surgery department.

Her journey began at Oxford University Medical School, where she earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (B.M. B.Ch.) degrees, along with a higher degree, MA(Oxon). Dr. Goodwin-Walters honed her skills in London teaching hospitals, culminating in the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (F.R.C.S.(Ed) and then started her specialist Plastic surgery training in Cambridge.

Notably, Dr. Goodwin-Walters embarked on an 18-month Burns Fellowship in Perth, Western Australia, under the guidance of Professor Fiona Wood during which she played an integral role in the Burns Unit team, providing vital care to survivors of the tragic Bali Bomb Blast in October 2002.

In 2004 on completion of her Plastic Surgery training she was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery FRCS(Plast) and was appointed a Consultant at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, UK. In 2011 she returned to Australia and was awarded her Australian Fellowship specialist qualification of FRACS(Plast). Working at Fiona Stanley Hospital Dr. Goodwin-Walters has particular sub-specialty interests in Microsurgery reconstruction, Breast reconstruction, Burns surgery, and Burn scar reconstruction.

Dr. Goodwin-Walters possesses a meticulous eye for detail, a natural sense of empathy, and an unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality care to her patients.
