Unfortunately it isn’t possible to ‘erase’ or ‘get rid’ of a scar completely, even if you are treated by plastic surgeons who specialise in scars.
There are, however, many ways of improving the way a scar looks and feels. All scars are different and each person with the scar is unique, so each scar needs a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
This requires a full consultation with Dr Rea, Dr Douglas or Dr Goodwin-Walters' at the start of your scar treatment to make sure we can determine the best treatment for you (see FAQs). Some of the different types of scars which we can help improve are listed below:
The trauma or burn which caused the scar may mean they took a longer time to heal – this can result in more scar tissue being made whilst it is healing and leaves a thicker, problematic scar.
A dermatologist is needed to treat the cause of the vitiligo with medication (to stop the immune system attacks).
Once the vitiligo is stable then any remaining pale patches might be suitable for scar treatment.
